The Fund of the Fundamental Library contains about 2 million volumes of domestic and foreign documents in many languages of the world in the leading branches of science and technology.

 

The BSU FL Fund has the following structure:

 

 

Since 1947, the Dag Hammarskjöld Library has organized the distribution of United Nations documents and publications to users around the world through a network of depository libraries. There are currently 350 depository libraries located in 135 countries.

 

On December 15, 1998, the Department of Public Information at United Nations Headquarters (New York) designated the BSU Fundamental Library as a depository library.

 

 

 

 

BSU FL receives:

 

  • Official publications of the main UN bodies: the General Assembly and its Committees, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Trusteeship Council, the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD.
  • General materials on the activities of the UN: the UN Charter, the annual reports of the UN Secretary-General on the work of the organization, UN newsletters, basic information about the UN, etc.
  • UN publications on socio-economic issues related to industry, agriculture, trade, transport, labor, social issues, demography. Publications with a product code intended for sale: yearbooks, main reports and studies, materials of UN conferences, seminars and symposiums.
  • Periodicals published by the UN.
  • United Nations Treaty Series.

The library collection contains scientific, reference, official, information publications in English, French and Russian. These are publications on economics, politics, law, statistics, demography, social issues.

 

The size of the collection: about 3,000 publications, including books, periodicals and electronic publications.

Since January 1, 2001, in accordance with an agreement between the BSU FL and the IMF, the BSU Fundamental Library began to form the depository fund of the International Monetary Fund.

 

 

The IMF Depository Fund consists of different types of publications:

 

  • by physical (material) type:
    printed publications (books and periodicals), electronic documents.
  • by the intended purpose:
    scientific, reference, official, informational publications.
  • by the language aspect:
    publications in English.
  • by thematic aspect:
    publications on the world economy, finance, economic statistics, macroeconomics, foreign economic relations, insurance, international trade, shadow economy, taxation, market economy, socio-economic development, country studies, etc.
  • by chronology:
    publications from 2001 to the present.

The Fund of Rare and Valuable Publications, which is part of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus, is an integral part of the unified library fund of the Fundamental Library.

The Fund of Rare and Valuable Publications is formed in order to implement the memorial function of the BSU FL by accumulating, permanently storing and recording publications of exceptional value or outstanding historical, scientific and cultural significance.

All publications that are included in the Fund of Rare and Valuable Publications are subject to a special regime of storage and use.

Fund Content

The Fund of Rare and Valuable Publications is a collection of domestic and foreign documents published before 1945, as well as historical-book collections formed from publications of a later period in Russian and foreign languages and includes the following collections:

  • manuscripts;
  • old printed editions (editions of the domestic civil press before 1825 and foreign ones before 1800, editions of the Cyrillic press);
  • revolutionary democratic literature of the period of the First Russian revolution of 1905-1907;
  • books of the first years of Soviet State (1918-1921);
  • banned by censorship and illegal literature before 1917;
  • editions of the times of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945);
  • publications returned from the special store department;
  • the first and lifetime editions of the classics of Russian and foreign literature;
  • the first and lifetime editions of scientists and cultural figures;
  • publications with autographs of people famous in literature, science, public life;
  • publications with autographs of the authors as a gift to the BSU FL;
  • reproduced (reprinted and facsimile) publications;
  • samples of publications that were issued by well-known publishers;
  • the best examples of publishing products of the XIX-early XX century (original printing method, font, material, etc.);
  • publications with proprietary provenances of the XIX-beginning XX centuries;
  • miniature editions.

Fund Content: the subsidiary fund of the information service department of the educational process contains educational, scientific, popular science, reference publications on natural, mathematical, technical, agricultural, medical, socio-political and social and humanitarian sciences.

  • the fund of the student reading room with open access;
  • the fund of the hall of information resources of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics with closed access;

but the priority in providing textbooks from the loan fund of educational literature is given to students of the Historical, Mechanical-Mathematical, Physical Faculties, the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, from the fund of the Hall of Information Resources of the Institute of Additional Education – to students of the Institute of Additional Education.
